Sonamarg Authorities Issue Safety, Cleanliness Advisory Amid Rising Tourist Rush and Heatwave

Sonamarg, June 13, KNT: Amid soaring temperatures and a growing influx of tourists, the Sonamarg Development Authority has issued a comprehensive advisory urging visitors to prioritise safety and environmental responsibility while enjoying the scenic destination.

The advisory comes in the wake of increasing incidents where tourists, including children, have been seen entering the River Sindh, particularly between Gagangir and Fish Point, to cool off during the heatwave. Authorities have warned that these waters are dangerous due to strong currents and concealed hazards, and have strongly advised against bathing or wading into any rivers, streams, or waterfalls in the area. Parents have been especially urged to keep a strict watch on their children.

To prevent tragedies, local tourism operators, including ponywalas and guides, have been instructed to caution visitors about the risks. Warning signs have also been installed at vulnerable locations to deter unsafe behaviour near water bodies.
