Budgam, June 13, KNT: Two employees of the Power Development Department, including a Junior Engineer, sustained injuries on Thursday following a blast involving a Grad transformer in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

The incident occurred earlier in the day, triggering a swift response from emergency personnel. Fire and Emergency Services, along with teams from Budgam Police, rushed to the site and secured the area to prevent any further mishap.

The injured—identified as a Junior Engineer and a technical assistant—were immediately evacuated to Budgam District Hospital. Medical officials confirmed that both men are in stable condition and are receiving appropriate care.

“A detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the blast,” a police officer at the scene told Kashmir News Trust. Officials have not ruled out a technical malfunction, but are awaiting expert reports before drawing any conclusions.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety protocols in place around high-voltage installations, especially amid increased power demand during the summer months.

Authorities assured that all precautionary measures will be reviewed and enforced to prevent such accidents in the future. [KNT]
