Srinagar, June 16, KNT: At least three persons sustained injuries in a mysterious explosion that rocked the Kasheri area of Handwara in north Kashmir on Sunday morning during the reconstruction work of a local mosque.

Eyewitnesses said the blast occurred while the old structure of the mosque was being dismantled to pave the way for a new building. The explosion took place suddenly, sending shockwaves through the area and disrupting the ongoing voluntary work.

The injured have been identified as Mudasir Ahmad Mir, a resident of Nutnoosa; Ghulam Ahmad Tantray of Kachri; and Owais Ahmad from Hadipora. All three were immediately shifted to a nearby health facility, where doctors have declared their condition as stable.

Following the incident, security forces swiftly reached the spot and cordoned off the area to prevent any further risk. A police team is on the ground to investigate the cause and origin of the explosion.

Superintendent of Police, Handwara, confirmed the incident and stated that the nature of the explosion remains unclear at this stage. “We are ascertaining the facts and further investigation is underway,” he said.  [KNT]
