22-Year-Old Undergoes Emergency Endoscopy, Life Saved by Expert Team in Kulgam


Kulgam, July 10, KNT: In a remarkable display of medical expertise and swift emergency response, doctors at District Hospital Kulgam successfully managed a life-threatening case of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding in a 22-year-old male patient from Shahoo area of Kulgam.
The patient was rushed to the hospital after vomiting large amounts of blood and showing signs of severe hypotension. He was immediately attended to in the Accident & Emergency Department, where emergency resuscitation measures were initiated.
Subsequently, the patient was subjected to an urgent endoscopy which revealed a large duodenal ulcer with an actively bleeding vein within it. The procedure, conducted by senior consultant and gastroenterologist Dr Hakim Mohd Shafi, involved endoscopic sclerotherapy, wherein 20ml of 1:10000 adrenaline was injected at multiple sites, successfully halting the bleeding.

“This was a major tertiary-level medical procedure that was skillfully carried out within a district hospital setup,” said an official at DH Kulgam. Dr Shafi was ably assisted by technicians Ms Sumira and Mr Zahoor Ahmad, whose contributions were also critical to the successful outcome.
The patient is now stable and admitted in the Medical Ward for observation and further care.
Medical Superintendent of DH Kulgam, Dr Syed Masood, praised the professionalism and dedication of the medical staff. “Our doctors at District Hospital Kulgam are highly talented and committed.
