DC Budgam participates in 11th Muharram Procession at Magam

In observance of the 11th of Muharram, a solemn and peaceful procession was held today at Magam in Budgam district.

The event witnessed the participation of a large number of mourners from various parts of the Kashmir Valley, who gathered to pay homage and express their religious devotion.

The 11th Muharram procession commenced from Yagipora Imambara and proceeded through the main market of Magam, with the revered Zuljana Sharief being carried by mourners. The procession culminated late in the evening at Astanpora, maintaining the traditional route.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat along with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Budgam, Nikhil Borkar participated in the procession and interacted with the participants.

On the occasion, DC and SSP personally distributed refreshments among the mourners, acknowledging their devotion, discipline, and participation in the religious observance.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the procession, district administration had made elaborate arrangements well in advance. Civic amenities, including uninterrupted power and water supply, sanitation, medical facilities, and other essential services, were made available along the procession route. Adequate security measures were also put in place through coordinated efforts of civil and police administration, thereby facilitating a safe and peaceful environment for the mourners.

DC appreciated the cooperation extended by the local community, religious leaders, and various departments involved in managing the arrangements. He reiterated the district administration’s commitment to upholding the sanctity of religious events and ensuring public convenience during such occasions.

DC stated that the culmination of the 11th Muharram procession at Magam stands as a testament to the district’s communal harmony, discipline, and the dedication of all stakeholders involved.

DC was accompanied by ADC, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Beerwah; SDPO Magam, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Budgam, Tehsildar Magam and Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Magam besides other concerned officials.
