Police Foil Possible Bid to Smuggle Weapons to Kashmir, Arrested a Youth

Jammu, July 30, KNT: Police in Jammu district apprehended a youth and seized a cache of arms and ammunition from his possession during a naka checking late Tuesday night in the Nagrota area, officials confirmed.

An official said the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs. At around 9:20 PM, a special checkpoint was established by a police team from Police Station Nagrota at the TCP Bypass. During the operation, a vehicle traveling from Jammu towards Srinagar was stopped and thoroughly searched.

“Upon inspection, police recovered three pistols, three empty magazines, eight live cartridges, and two empty cartridges from the possession of the car’s driver,” the official said.

The accused has been identified as Azan Hameed Gazi, son of Abdul Hamid Gazi, a resident of Qamarwari in Srinagar district.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Arms Act at Police Station Nagrota. “Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the weapons, the motive behind the transportation, and any potential links to militant groups or networks,” the official added.

Security agencies are also probing whether the seized weapons were intended for use in the Valley or meant to be delivered to any underground operatives. [KNT]
