Udhampur Police Crack 2007 House Theft Case, Recover Stolen Jewellery


In a remarkable breakthrough, Udhampur Police have successfully solved a 17-year-old theft case, recovering stolen jewellery worth approximately Rs 1 lakh and arresting two accused individuals involved in the crime.
The case dates back to July 3, 2007, when one Karnail Chand, son of Shiv Ram, a resident of Incha village in Tehsil Ramnagar, reported the ransacking and theft from his house while he was away. A formal case was registered at Police Station Ramnagar, and an investigation was immediately taken up.
Acting on fresh leads, the investigation team rounded up several suspects for questioning. During sustained interrogation, two individuals confessed to the crime, revealing their involvement in the long-unsolved case.
The accused have been identified as: Sanjay Kumar, son of Bhagat Kumar, originally from Chakal, Tehsil Basantgarh (currently residing at Jakhani, Tehsil & District Udhampur) and Kaushaliya Devi, wife of Romesh Singh, resident of Marta, Tehsil Ramnagar.

Based on the disclosures made by the duo, the police team successfully recovered the entire stolen jewellery, valued at approximately Rs 1,00,000, from their possession.
Both accused have been formally arrested, and further investigations are ongoing to ascertain whether they were involved in other similar theft cases in the region.
Udhampur Police have been widely praised for their persistence and commitment to justice, bringing closure to a case that had remained unresolved for nearly two decades.
