J&K govt sacks Tral irrigation employee over drug case

Pulwama, Aug 18, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir government has dismissed an employee of the Irrigation Division in Tral after he was found involved in a narcotics-related case.
According to an official order, the employee, identified as Farooq Ahmad Najar, who was working as an Orderly-cum-Chowkidar, was terminated under Article 311(2) of the Constitution of India.
Najar had been booked in FIR No. 0043/2024 under sections 8, 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Kakapora after police recovered 6.5 grams of brown sugar from his possession. He was arrested and placed under suspension on November 26, 2024, pending an inquiry.

The inquiry officer, in his report, stated that Najar had failed to uphold the integrity expected of a public servant and had “actively engaged in activities detrimental to public welfare.” The report further observed that his involvement in an “illicit drug network” posed a serious threat to public safety and contributed to crime and social instability.
After reviewing the findings, the competent authority ordered his dismissal from service with immediate effect, also disqualifying him from any future government employment.
The government maintained that retaining him in service would amount to a “grave risk to public welfare and undermine public trust in government institutions.” [KNT]
