Local Militant Killed in Kulgam Gunfight, Weapons Recovered

 

 

Kulgam, Aug 2, KNT: A local militant was killed during an anti-militancy operation launched by security forces in the Akhal area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, official sources said.

According to police sources, a joint team of Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon and search operation in Akhal following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the area. The operation culminated in a brief exchange of fire, during which a militant was neutralized.

Security officials confirmed that arms and ammunition were recovered from the site, including an AK-47 rifle, an AK magazine, and several grenades. The identity of the slain militant is being ascertained, though initial inputs suggest he was a local resident affiliated with a militant outfit operating in South Kashmir.

Police said that the operation was conducted with precision to avoid collateral damage, and no casualties were reported among the security personnel. Police further stated that the area has been thoroughly sanitized, and a search operation is ongoing to rule out the presence of any more militants.
