Women, Children Fear Stepping Out Amid Growing Dog Packs in Bemina

Srinagar, Nov 13, KNT: Panic and fear have gripped Gousia Colony in Bemina area of Srinagar as locals complain of an alarming rise in stray dogs roaming the lanes, making it unsafe for women and children to step outside.

Locals told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the area has turned virtually inaccessible during morning and evening hours as packs of stray dogs occupy the lanes. “The situation has worsened to the extent that we can’t even venture out to fetch bread or offer prayers,” said one local, adding that the menace has created a constant sense of fear among inhabitants.

Inhabitants, particularly women and children, are said to be the worst affected. “Our children are terrified, and women avoid stepping out alone. The dogs chase anyone passing by,” another local lamented.
