Transporters Welfare Association Budgam calls for district-wide strike from Wednesday

Budgam, Aug 24, KNT: The Transporters Welfare Association Budgam has announced a district-wide transport strike starting Wednesday, citing the administration’s failure to respond to their long-pending demands.

The association said that despite holding several meetings and submitting written representations in recent weeks, the authorities have not provided any assurance or solution. Left with no alternative, the transporters declared that all public transport and goods carrier services will remain suspended across Budgam district.

A spokesperson for the association said that the decision was taken reluctantly but the grievances of transporters had been ignored for too long. “We regret the inconvenience to the public, but the administration must take immediate steps to address our legitimate concerns,” the spokesperson remarked.

One of the major demands highlighted by the association is a ban on unregulated e-rickshaws, which they allege are operating without proper documentation and have gravely affected the livelihood of traditional transporters.
