Flood channel breach inundates Khushipora Telbal in Srinagar outskirts

Srinagar, Sep 3, KNT: Incessant rainfall triggered a breach in the flood channel at Khushipora Telbal in Hazratbal area on the outskirts of Srinagar, leaving houses and roads inundated and causing distress to the local population.

Locals told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that floodwaters gushed into residential areas early Wednesday morning after what they described as a cloudburst in the upper reaches of Dachigam. The sudden flow submerged several houses, lanes and the main road, forcing families to move belongings to higher ground.

“Water entered our homes within minutes. We could do little except rush to protect children and elderly members,” said a local from Khushipora, adding that repeated requests for preventive measures in the area had gone unheeded.
