Aga Syed Hassan Condemns Random Arrests in Ladakh, Calls for Dialogue

Srinagar, Sep 25, KNT: Senior religious and political leader Aga Syed Hassan Al-Mosavi Al-Safvi on Thursday strongly condemned what he termed as repression and hardships unleashed against the people of Ladakh, warning that continued neglect of their political and developmental aspirations is deepening resentment across the region.
In a statement to the news agency Kashmir News Trust, Mosavi said the people of Ladakh have been pushed to the margins despite their long-standing struggle for rights and safeguards. He noted that issues of livelihood, land protection, cultural identity, and political representation deserve immediate attention from the authorities.
“The people of Ladakh have always stood for peace, harmony, and coexistence, but they are being pushed to the wall by policies that disregard their rights and aspirations. Such repression is unacceptable and must stop immediately,” Mosavi said.

He stressed that in a democratic society, citizens cannot be silenced through the use of force or repressive measures. “A democratic system cannot afford to ignore the voices of its people, nor can it justify violence and suppression as a response to legitimate demands,” he remarked.
Expressing solidarity with the people of Ladakh, Mosavi urged the Government of India to initiate meaningful dialogue with local stakeholders. “Engagement through sincere dialogue is the only way to ensure justice and restore confidence among the people. Suppression will only breed alienation,” he said.
The Shia cleric also appealed to civil society groups, human rights organizations, and the media to amplify the concerns of Ladakhis. “Their grievances are genuine and deserve to be heard. Silence and indifference will only add to their sense of betrayal,” he added. [KNT]
