Srinagar, Sep 9, KNT: The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has directed the administration to consider allotting suitable accommodation to the Press Club of Kashmir for the smooth running of its affairs.

The court, presided over by Justice Javed Iqbal Wani, passed the order while hearing a petition filed by the Press Club of Kashmir through its president, Mohammad Saleem Pandit. The petitioner submitted that the Press Club, a registered society, had been allotted a building at Polo View Srinagar in 2019, along with financial assistance of ₹50 lakh from the government.

In 2021, however, the authorities directed the Press Club to vacate the Polo View premises with the assurance that alternate accommodation would be provided. The petitioner’s counsel argued that despite repeated representations, including to the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, no alternate facility was made available.
