In connection with the violence that led to the loss of lives and widespread damage to property, police have so far arrested more than 50 people. Officials confirmed that among those detained are individuals hailing from Nepal and Jammu’s Doda district. Investigators are questioning them to ascertain whether external agencies had any role in fueling the unrest. “The interrogation will help determine if there was an organized hand behind the incidents that unfolded,” the official added.

The violence, which broke out earlier this week, left four people dead and dozens of security personnel injured after mobs attacked government offices, torched vehicles, and clashed with police. The situation has since remained tense but under control with continuous deployment of security forces and strict vigil in sensitive areas.

Meanwhile, in Kargil, commercial activity resumed on Friday with markets reopening after a complete shutdown observed the previous day. Reports said shops and business establishments functioned normally, indicating a return to routine in the district.

Authorities have reiterated their appeal to the people to maintain calm and not be swayed by rumors or provocative material on social media. They said the priority is to stabilize the situation fully and ensure uninterrupted functioning of educational institutions, government offices, and commercial establishments across Ladakh. [KNT]
