Punjab Police Busts Jaish-e-Muhammad-Linked Module, Three from J&K Arrested

Mohali, Sep 2, KNT:  Punjab Police have dismantled a militant module connected to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and arrested three individuals hailing from Jammu and Kashmir in connection with the abduction and murder of a cab driver in Mohali.

Police said that the case came to light after Anil Kumar, a cab driver from Nayagaon, went missing when his vehicle was forcibly snatched by unidentified persons. His mobile phones were later found switched off, prompting immediate suspicion. Acting swiftly, police teams tracked and apprehended the three accused who had hired the cab from Kharar.

During interrogation, the accused admitted to shooting the driver following an altercation and disposing of his body in the Mohali area. Intensive search operations are ongoing to trace the mortal remains. The snatched vehicle and a .32 bore pistol used in the crime have also been recovered.

One of the accused, identified as Sahil Bashir, is a wanted figure in a case registered under UAPA and the Arms Act at Police Station Qalamabad, Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir. His brother, Aijaz Ahmad, had earlier been arrested with a cache of weapons and materials linked to JeM. Police identified both as Over Ground Workers of the outfit.
