Sopore Hosts 2nd Cycling Championship

Sopore, Sept 14, KNT: The 2nd edition of the Cycling Racing Championship was held at Nowpora Sopore on Sunday morning, attracting more than 120 participants in the 15–19 age group. The event brought together boys and girls who competed with zeal and enthusiasm, highlighting the growing interest in sports among the youth of the region.
MLA Sopore, Irshad Rasool Kar, attended as the chief guest and appreciated the organizers for continuing the championship. He said such initiatives play a crucial role in keeping young people away from excessive screen time and encouraging them to adopt healthier lifestyles.
“This is a good initiative. The motive is to keep young people engaged in sports, which benefits not only their physical well-being but also society as a whole,” Kar told reporters on the sidelines of the event.

The legislator also assured that the government is working to strengthen sports infrastructure in Sopore and its adjoining areas. “All pending sports grounds are under construction, and we will ensure the timely completion of these projects,” he said.
In a significant announcement, Kar revealed plans to establish a dedicated park for women in Sopore. “We are in the process of identifying suitable land, and once available, work on the park exclusively for women will begin,” he added.
The cycling event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where the young riders were applauded for their determination and talent. [KNT]
