Drug Peddler Arrested in Central Kashmir’s Budgam, Heroin-Like Substance, Vehicle Seized


Budgam, Oct 2, KNT: Budgam Police arrested a drug peddler in Chadoora and recovered heroin-like substance from his possession, officials said. The vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also seized during the operation.
According to police, a team from Police Station Chadoora led by PSI Goverdhan Singh had set up a checkpoint at Durbugh Crossing when they intercepted a suspicious Mahindra Thar bearing registration number DL4CNA7913. On noticing the naka, the driver allegedly attempted to escape but was quickly apprehended by the alert police party.
During the search, a quantity of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Mohammad Ashraf Nath, son of Mohammad Ismail Nath, resident of Parnew, Wazir Bagh, area of Budgam. He was immediately taken into custody.

Police said a formal case under FIR No. 175/2025 has been registered at Police Station Chadoora under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and whether others are involved.
Officials added that the vehicle used in the crime has also been seized as part of the investigation. “The seizure of the Thar vehicle and the arrest of the accused are important steps in disrupting the drug supply chain in the district,” a senior police officer said.
The police also appealed to locals to continue cooperating in the ongoing campaign against drugs. “Budgam Police urges the public to extend cooperation in the fight against drugs. We reaffirm our commitment to act firmly against drug peddlers and safeguard the youth from the menace of narcotics,” the statement read. [KNT]
