Yashwant Sinha Led Team Meet Tariq Hameed Karra in Srinagar, Discussions Held on J&K Situation

 

Srinagar, Oct 30, KNT: Former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha led a civil society delegation to Srinagar on Thursday, where he called on Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra at his Shivpora residence and held detailed deliberations on political and regional issues.

Karra was accompanied by AICC General Secretary and CLP Leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir and Party Chief Whip and MLA Nizamuddin Bhat during the meeting.

Yashwant Sinha’s delegation included Air Vice Marshal (Retd.) Kapil Kak, Advocate Bharat Bhushan, noted peace activist Sushoba Barve, and Mrs. Sinha. The team has been on a visit to Jammu and Kashmir as part of its continuing engagement with political leaders and civil society representatives to assess the prevailing situation and encourage dialogue.

According to sources, the two sides held detailed discussions on the overall political and developmental scenario in Jammu and Kashmir, besides reviewing the larger subcontinental situation in light of recent geopolitical developments.

The conversation, described as “meaningful and cordial,” touched upon issues of governance, reconciliation, and public trust-building, with both sides agreeing on the need for continued dialogue and cooperation to address challenges facing the region.

Karra, Mir, and Bhat briefed the visiting delegation on the ground realities, political atmosphere, and public aspirations in the Union Territory. The leaders also emphasised the importance of safeguarding democratic institutions and restoring full political and administrative normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir.

Yashwant Sinha, who has visited J&K multiple times over the years as part of peace and outreach efforts, appreciated the Congress leadership’s perspectives and reaffirmed the delegation’s commitment to promoting inclusive dialogue as a path toward durable peace and stability.

The meeting lasted over an hour and was marked by a free exchange of views on both domestic and regional issues, including the prospects for confidence-building and political engagement in the coming months. [KNT]
