Airtel extends mobile connectivity to Ladakh’s remote Man and Merak villages

Srinagar, Nov 17, KNT: Bharti Airtel has extended mobile connectivity to the remote Ladakh villages of Man and Merak, located along the eastern border near Pangong Lake. Officials said the deployment has brought mobile network access to an area that had remained without telecom coverage for decades.
The newly connected region lies along the stretch between Man and Merak, a nearly fifty kilometre corridor that had no mobile services due to harsh terrain and difficult access. With the network now operational, locals, security forces and travellers will be able to communicate in a region known for limited infrastructure.
The rollout also links the route between Chushul and Pangong Tso, an area frequented by visitors during peak tourist months. Officials said the expansion will support basic services such as digital payments, emergency communication and essential mobile access for inhabitants living in high-altitude conditions.
Airtel officials in Jammu and Kashmir said the initiative is part of efforts to extend mobile coverage to remote and high-altitude areas of Ladakh where communication remains a long-standing challenge. [KNT]
