FAIMA Urges Health Minister to Reverse Cancellation of Paid Leave for Female Doctors

Srinagar, Nov 20, KNT: The Federation of All India Medical Association, led by Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, has appealed to Health Minister Sakina Itoo to intervene and revoke the recent cancellation of Leave With Pay for female doctors across Jammu and Kashmir.

In a detailed representation submitted to the minister, the association conveyed deep concern and disappointment over the government decision, terming it a setback for women working in the medical field. The association said the order disproportionately affects female doctors who are pregnant, postpartum or managing both patient care and household responsibilities.

FAIMA described women doctors as the backbone of the healthcare system who handle emergencies, extended working hours and critical cases while often compromising their own well-being. The association said maternity-related paid leave is a basic right that safeguards the health and dignity of both mother and child.

The association highlighted several consequences of the cancellation which include increased physical and mental risk for pregnant and postpartum doctors, discouragement for women to continue in a demanding profession, creation of workplace inequality and violation of established norms for maternal protection.
