Electrocuted power worker dies at SMHS after two days of treatment

 

Srinagar, Dec 8, KNT: A Power Development Department employee who was critically injured after suffering electrocution in Budgam district on Saturday succumbed to his injuries at SMHS Hospital Srinagar on Monday morning, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Rather, aged 55, son of Ghulam Hassan, an inhabitant of Mahawara Budgam. He was working as a Permanent Daily Labourer with the Power Development Department.

According to officials, the incident occurred at Lakhripora in Budgam when the worker was engaged in repairing an electric wire. During the course of work, he came into direct contact with a live electric current, resulting in severe electrocution.

Following the incident, he was rushed in a critical condition to District Hospital Budgam, from where he was referred to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for specialised treatment. Despite sustained medical efforts, doctors at SMHS said he succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning.

Officials said cognizance of the incident has been taken and further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances that led to the fatal electrocution. [KNT]
