Jahangir Ghani Bhat Backs Mirwaiz, Calls for Dialogue Over Confrontation


Srinagar, Dec 28, KNT:  Muslim Conference leader Jahangir Ghani Bhat on Sunday expressed firm solidarity with Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, endorsing his dialogue-oriented and pragmatic approach towards peace and reconciliation in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement, Bhat described Mirwaiz as an esteemed religious leader whose sacrifices and moral conviction for the people of Kashmir are widely acknowledged. He said that in the prevailing complex circumstances, Mirwaiz’s emphasis on meaningful dialogue instead of confrontation reflected wisdom, courage and a deep sense of responsibility towards the region’s future.

Bhat, who is the son of late separatist leader Prof Abdul Gani Bhat, said prioritising conversation over conflict, reconciliation over division and constructive engagement over rigid posturing was indispensable for achieving lasting peace with dignity.

He praised Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s commitment to seeking a peaceful resolution through sincere dialogue involving all stakeholders, terming it a path that requires exceptional foresight and moral strength.

The  Muslim Conference leader said standing with voices advocating peaceful engagement was both a moral responsibility and a political necessity, reiterating his support for all efforts aimed at peace, justice and reconciliation in the region.

He also urged all concerned parties to recognise and reciprocate the spirit of pragmatism shown by Mirwaiz, asserting that a sincere opening for dialogue must be met with seriousness and goodwill to pave the way for harmony and lasting stability. [KNT]
