Kulgam Police register major gains against drugs, cybercrime in 2025, NDPS convictions, property attachments mark firm policing 

Kulgam, Dec 31, KNT: District Police Kulgam on Wednesday reported significant achievements during the year 2025, stating that sustained, result-oriented and citizen-centric strategies were implemented to curb crime, enhance public safety and strengthen community trust across the district.

According to police, a focused crackdown on drug abuse remained a top priority under a zero-tolerance policy. During the year, 87 FIRs were registered under the NDPS Act against 111 accused persons, leading to the recovery of contraband worth several crores of rupees. Police said two NDPS cases resulted in convictions, with one accused sentenced to ten years of rigorous imprisonment and another awarded life imprisonment. Preventive measures and awareness programmes were also conducted to promote a drug-free society.

To dismantle the financial networks of drug traffickers, police attached seven residential houses valued at approximately ₹4.32 crore under the NDPS Act after following due legal procedures. Officials said the action was aimed at depriving offenders of illegal proceeds and deterring similar crimes.

Police also reported action under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, wherein one motorcycle bearing registration number JK03M-4554 was attached. Officials said the move was intended to disrupt logistical support to individuals involved in unlawful activities and reinforce zero tolerance against anti-national elements.

During the year, special drives were launched to trace absconding accused involved in serious crimes. Police initiated legal proceedings against proclaimed offenders, including attachment of properties. Officials said trials in absentia were facilitated under new legal provisions through timely investigations and submission of charge sheets.

Kulgam Police also intensified action against illegal mining. A total of 167 FIRs were registered against 229 individuals for illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals. Police seized 235 vehicles, including dumpers and tractors, in coordination with the district administration and the mining department.

On the cybercrime front, the Cyber Police Station Kulgam received 762 complaints through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Through swift intervention and coordination with banks and agencies, an amount of ₹79,60,258.98 was recovered and returned to victims.

Under the Civic Action Programme, police utilised ₹10,94,500 for 14 community and sports-based activities aimed at youth engagement, physical fitness and anti-drug awareness. Officials said the initiatives helped strengthen police public relations.

Police further said that during 2025, 97 mobile phones reported lost, stolen or misused were blocked, while 41 devices were traced and returned to their lawful owners through technical and field investigations.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kulgam Anayat Ali Chowdhary urged inhabitants to remain vigilant and share timely information on anti-social or anti-national activities.
