Police Officer Booked After Public Assault of Two-Wheeler Rider in J&K’s Doda

 

Doda, Dec 6, KNT: A serving Assistant Sub-Inspector of Jammu and Kashmir Police has been booked after allegedly assaulting a two-wheeler rider in full public view, an incident that was captured on video and widely circulated on social media, prompting public outrage and official action.

Police sources said the accused officer was identified as ASI Ghulam Ali. The incident reportedly took place earlier this week in the Doda area, where the officer was seen manhandling a biker during a roadside altercation. The video, which went viral shortly after, showed the policeman allegedly using force against the rider as bystanders looked on.

Following the circulation of the footage, the victim, identified as Anzar Majid Malik, approached the police and lodged a formal complaint, accusing the ASI of wrongful restraint and physical assault. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the law and initiated an investigation into the matter.

Senior police officials said the matter is being taken seriously and reiterated that misconduct by police personnel will not be tolerated. They said the law applies equally to all, irrespective of rank or position, and assured that departmental and legal action would follow based on the outcome of the probe.

The registration of an FIR against a serving officer has drawn public attention, with many locals calling for strict accountability and transparent investigation in cases involving alleged police excesses.
