RP School Faces Fresh Accusations of Arbitrary Fee Hike
Parents Allege School Increased Charges Without Transparency

Srinagar, Dec 12, KNT: RP School Lawayapora has once again come under public criticism after parents accused the institution of imposing arbitrary fee hikes without providing clarity or justification. Several parents alleged that the school raised both tuition and transport charges in November despite having already collected substantial sums at the time of admission earlier this year.
Parents said they paid twenty-five thousand rupees during admission in January, an amount presented as covering annual charges. Classes began in March. Families now question why the fees were raised again within seven months and why no detailed breakdown of the earlier annual charges was ever shared with them.
Parents added that the transport fee was also increased without consultation or proper explanation. They argued that, as per the Fee Fixation Committee guidelines, any revision of charges should have been considered only after completing a year, which would fall in April 2026. They said the sudden hike, effective from November to March, is unjustifiable at a time when children remain home during winter break.

Despite repeated attempts, Fee Fixation Committee Chairman Rtd Justice Sunil Hali didn’t pick up the phone.
Families further expressed frustration that, despite paying annual fees in April 2025, they were told to pay another round of annual charges in November. They questioned what they described as an absence of transparency, adding that the school continues to demand payments for every event even though parents have already been billed under annual heads.
Parents said that such practices amount to the commercialisation of education and place unnecessary financial stress on families. They urged authorities to intervene and ensure that private schools follow fair procedures, maintain transparency and stop what they described as exploiting parents for routine academic processes.
