Awareness programme on new criminal laws held at 11 police stations in Srinagar
Srinagar, Jan 8, KNT: As part of the public outreach programme of the Jammu and Kashmir Government, Srinagar Police on Thursday observed Lok Darbar cum Awareness Programme of New Criminal Laws, popularly known as Thana Diwas, across various police stations and police posts in the city.
In the first phase for January 2026, the programme was organized at eleven police stations of the district, including Maisuma, Nowgam, Safakadal, Batamaloo, Soura, Kothibagh, Parimpora, MR Gunj, Shergarhi, Zaidbal and Kralkhud.
The meetings were chaired by supervisory and jurisdictional police officers and witnessed participation from a wide cross section of civil society. Participants included members of Auqaf Committees, traders’ and transporters’ federations, Panchayati Raj representatives, religious preachers, locality elders and other community representatives.
During the Lok Darbar sessions, participants highlighted several issues of public importance and raised grievances falling within the domain of district police such as illegal narcotics trafficking, sand mafia activities, traffic-related problems and issues linked to floating population. Concerns pertaining to civil administration including road maintenance, sanitation, public health and electricity supply were also recorded for appropriate follow-up.

Police officials said Lok Darbar and Thana Diwas serve as an important platform to connect directly with the people and ensure that their concerns are heard and addressed in a timely manner. The Srinagar Police reiterated their commitment to building a safer and more secure environment through transparency, accountability and community participation.
Participants were urged to cooperate with police in curbing the drug menace and in identifying anti national and anti social elements to maintain peace and order. Community members assured their full cooperation in strengthening police public relations and improving the overall security environment.
Police said that by organizing such programmes, Srinagar Police continues to reinforce confidence between citizens and law enforcement agencies and enhance grassroots level policing for effective grievance redressal. [KNT]
