Eleven Persons Bound Down by Police in Ganderbal for Using VPN

Ganderbal, Jan 5, KNT: Police in Ganderbal district have initiated preventive action against individuals found using virtual private networks without authorization, citing violation of orders issued by the district administration.
Officials said that during a verification exercise carried out in the jurisdictions of Ganderbal and Kangan police stations, eleven persons were found using VPN services in contravention of lawful directions issued by the District Magistrate. Following verification, proceedings were initiated under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the individuals were produced before the concerned Executive Magistrates.
Police said the persons were subsequently bound down to maintain good behaviour as a preventive measure, aimed at safeguarding public order and cyber security in the district. The action, officials said, was taken as part of broader efforts to ensure compliance with lawful orders and prevent misuse of digital platforms.
Meanwhile, Ganderbal Police warned that any violation of government directives would invite strict legal action. The police also appealed to the public to cooperate with law-enforcement agencies in maintaining peace, security and lawful use of digital services across the district.[KNT]
