Foreign policy paralysis, record fuel prices hurting common man: Sharma

Jammu, Jan 20, KNT: Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma on Tuesday accused the BJP of misleading the people of Jammu, saying the party has failed to convince them about any tangible achievements since 2019 and is instead playing with public sentiments for political gains.

Talking to reporters in Jammu, Sharma said the BJP is confusing the people of the region because it is unable to clearly explain what it has achieved after the abrogation of Article 370. He warned that the present approach of the party would ultimately ruin Jammu and further alienate its people.

Referring to the events of August 2019, the minister said that many people in Jammu had celebrated the abrogation of Article 370, but a significant section is now repenting that decision after witnessing the ground reality. He said governance has moved away from the people, while bureaucratic control has increased sharply under the BJP rule.

Sharma alleged that ordinary citizens are on the backfoot, with decision making concentrated in the hands of officials rather than elected representatives. He also criticized the broader national situation, stating that there is a visible paralysis in foreign policy and growing economic distress.

Highlighting economic indicators, Sharma said the dollar is at an all time high, while petrol and diesel prices have also touched record levels, adding to the burden on common people. He stressed that the country needs good people in governance who genuinely work in the interest of the public rather than pursuing power alone.

The cabinet minister urged the people of Jammu to see through what he termed as the BJP’s politics of sentiment, cautioning that the party’s sole objective is to remain in power, even if it comes at the cost of public welfare and regional stability. [KNT]
