MLAs must be taken on board as part of governance, Deputy CM warns officials

Shopian, Jan 28, KNT: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Chowdhary on Wednesday warned government employees against indulging in political activities or working for a few selected individuals at the cost of coordination with elected representatives, stating that such conduct may invite strict action.

Responding to a question on the suspension of five employees, including two Assistant Executive Engineers, one Assistant Engineer, one AE under the PM Package and one Junior Engineer, the Deputy Chief Minister said legislators cannot be sidelined in governance matters. “MLAs are part of the government and hold constitutional positions. Officials must take them on board,” he said.

Chowdhary said several issues raised by local legislators regarding delayed snow removal and road connectivity were taken seriously by the government. He said action has already been initiated against officials who failed to respond promptly during the recent spell of snowfall.

Acknowledging public inconvenience, the Deputy Chief Minister said delays in snow clearance cause immense hardship to inhabitants, affecting daily life, emergency services, education and economic activity. He stressed that accountability is non negotiable and officials must realise that public service demands responsibility, particularly during harsh weather conditions.
