Series of Fire incidents reported across Kashmir in 24 hours, Shops, houses, mosque, haystacks damaged

 

Srinagar, Jan 1, KNT: The Fire & Emergency Services attended to a series of fire incidents across the Kashmir Division during the last 24 hours, responding swiftly to prevent the spread of flames and limit damage to life and property.

In north Kashmir, a single-story shopping line comprising seven shops was damaged in a fire incident at Kongrusa in the Rafiabad area of Sopore. Another commercial fire was reported from the main market of Dangiwacha in Sopore, where three shops were involved. Sopore subdivision also witnessed multiple rural fire incidents, including haystacks catching fire at Kunzer, Wanigam and Peernia. At Peernia, a single story structure belonging to the Jhelum Hydro Project was also affected.

In Srinagar city, a Chinar tree at Shivpora Bund sustained damage due to fire. Similar damage to a Chinar tree was reported from Adlash in Seergufwara area of Anantnag district.

Kupwara district reported several residential and shed related incidents. A double story residential house was involved in a fire at Lastiyal in Kalaroos, while another single story residential house was damaged at Arambagh in Payerpora. In Handwara’s Washipora area, two wooden sheds were involved in a separate fire incident.

South Kashmir districts also saw significant incidents. In Nayi Basti area of Anantnag, a double story mosque, Jamia Ahli Hadees, was involved in a fire. Two haystacks were damaged at Kathnarg Deknarg in Kulgam district. In Pulwama’s Keller area, a double storied cowshed at Zakhram caught fire.

In central and north Kashmir, a haystack was involved in a fire at Madain Mohalla in Bandipora district.

Officials said that firefighting teams reached all locations in time, controlled the fires and prevented further escalation. No loss of life was reported in any of the incidents, while assessment of property damage is underway. [KNT]
