SMC ad hoc employees go unpaid for three months, families under strain

Srinagar, Jan 28, KNT: Ad hoc employees working with the Srinagar Municipal Corporation have expressed serious concern after remaining without salaries for the past three months, causing widespread distress among workers and their families.
The affected employees said they are struggling to meet basic household expenses due to the prolonged delay in disbursement of wages. Many workers stated that despite performing their duties regularly, they have been left in uncertainty, with no clear communication from the authorities regarding payment of pending salaries.
According to the employees, repeated representations have been made to the concerned offices, but no concrete assurance has been given so far. They said the delay has added to financial pressure, particularly on families dependent solely on these earnings for sustenance.
Workers alleged that the non payment reflects apathy towards ad hoc staff, who form a significant part of the workforce involved in sanitation, maintenance and civic services across the city. They warned that continued neglect could impact morale and efficiency of essential municipal services.
