SSP Traffic Srinagar counsels minors, warns parents against underage driving

Srinagar, Jan 20, KNT: SSP Traffic Srinagar City on Tuesday counselled traffic violators, including underage riders, during a special awareness drive aimed at curbing reckless and illegal driving by minors on city roads.
During the interaction, two young boys, one of them just 14 years old, were found riding two-wheelers without valid driving licences. The minors were also indulging in unsafe driving practices, including stunts, posing serious risk to themselves and others on the road.
The SSP Traffic Srinagar City, Ajaz Ahmad told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that minors lack the maturity, control, and cognitive understanding required for responsible driving. He said children are not reflective in decision-making and cannot assess the consequences of their actions, making underage driving extremely dangerous.
Holding parents accountable, the SSP said it is the fault of parents who hand over vehicle keys to minors, despite being fully aware of the risks involved. He strongly advised parents not to allow children to drive vehicles under any circumstances, stating that such negligence often leads to tragic accidents.

Parents of the minors were counselled on the spot and were clearly told not to provide vehicles to underage children. The SSP appealed to all parents in Srinagar to act responsibly and ensure that minors stay away from driving until they are legally eligible and properly trained.
Traffic police officials said such counselling drives will continue across the city as part of sustained efforts to promote road safety and prevent accidents involving minors. [KNT]
