Jammu, Jan 10, KNT: The justification given by the National Medical Commission for revoking the letter of permission of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College has come under sharp scrutiny, with students of the institution publicly contradicting the regulator’s claims.
Speaking to reporters, students of the medical college said that classrooms, laboratories and other infrastructure facilities are fully functional and in proper condition. They asserted that the institution has adequate facilities required for medical education and described the infrastructure as excellent, rejecting allegations of deficiencies cited by the NMC.
The students said that they are directly affected by the decision and have firsthand knowledge of the ground situation, which, according to them, does not match the claims made to justify the withdrawal of permission.

Reacting to the development, Shama Mohamed, spokesperson of the Indian National Congress, questioned the intent behind the NMC’s move. She alleged that the action was taken under pressure from bigoted leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party and right-wing fringe groups.
She said the NMC should admit the truth, claiming that the decision was influenced by the fact that 42 Muslim students secured admission to the college through NEET by following all prescribed criteria. She termed the action discriminatory and politically motivated, and said it raises serious concerns about fairness and equal treatment in medical education. [KNT]
