

Srinagar, Jan 22, KNT: The Jammu Srinagar National Highway remained open for two way traffic on Thursday, with vehicles plying smoothly and no traffic congestion reported along the vital arterial road, officials said.
Traffic authorities said that movement of both light motor vehicles and heavy vehicles continued uninterrupted between Jammu and Srinagar. No traffic jams were reported at any major stretch of the highway, including vulnerable points near Banihal and Qazigund.
Officials said the smooth flow of traffic comes ahead of the forecast of fresh snowfall and rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir from late Thursday evening. In view of the weather prediction, concerned departments have kept men and machinery on high alert to ensure quick response in case of snowfall or any disruption on the highway.

Snow clearance equipment, recovery vehicles and traffic personnel have been strategically positioned at key locations along the highway to deal with any eventuality. Authorities said regular monitoring of weather and road conditions is being carried out to maintain uninterrupted connectivity.
Travellers have been advised to follow traffic advisories, adhere to lane discipline and avoid unnecessary halts, especially during late hours, as weather conditions may deteriorate in the coming hours.
