Trump Says Soleimani’s Death Weakened Iran Amid Ongoing Protests

Former United States President Donald Trump has said that the killing of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in a US drone strike in 2020 has helped weaken Iran at a time when the country is facing widespread protests over economic hardships and demands for regime change.
Trump, who ordered the drone strike that killed Soleimani, described the Iranian commander as a strong general whose absence, he claimed, has benefited the current situation in Iran. He said Soleimani had played a key role in activities that led to injuries among American troops, particularly through the use of roadside bombs.
Referring to the ongoing protests in Iran, Trump expressed support for demonstrators, saying the unrest reflects deep public anger over economic conditions and governance. He pointed to reports suggesting that more than 2,400 people have been killed and around 18,000 arrested during a crackdown by Iranian authorities since the protests began.
Trump’s remarks come amid heightened international attention on Iran’s internal situation, with rights groups and Western governments repeatedly raising concerns over the scale of force used against protesters.
