Udhampur, Feb 4, KNT: The ongoing encounter in the Ramnagar area of Udhampur district entered its second day on Wednesday, with security forces using drones to locate militants who were spotted firing from inside a cave, officials said.
Officials said the encounter, which broke out on Tuesday following specific intelligence inputs, intensified after aerial surveillance detected militant movement and gunfire originating from a cave located in the forested area. Drone footage helped security forces pinpoint the terrorists’ position, prompting a calibrated response on the ground.
Joint teams of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have maintained a tight cordon around the area, while reinforcements were deployed to prevent any possible escape. The difficult terrain and dense cover, officials said, were posing operational challenges.
Sources said the use of drones played a crucial role in confirming the presence of militants inside the cave, allowing security forces to adjust their strategy and avoid unnecessary risk to personnel.
