Enquiry ordered into alleged misconduct by Tangmarg municipality officials

Baramulla, Feb 6, KNT: The Municipal Committee Tangmarg Gulmarg in North Kashmir has sought the intervention of the Sub Divisional Magistrate Gulmarg following allegations of misconduct by municipal officials during a routine market checking drive in the Tangmarg area.

According to an official communication issued by the Municipal Committee, the incident occurred during an anti-encroachment drive aimed at preventing road occupation by street vendors. The letter states that a large number of vendors selling caps, gloves and socks were found operating near the toll post, leading to traffic congestion and accumulation of plastic waste at the site.

The Municipal Committee said that plastic covers of the items being sold were found scattered in the area, resulting in garbage buildup. During the checking drive, certain items belonging to the vendors were seized as per procedure.

However, the letter notes that while the seizure process was underway, a video (about an assault on a vendor by a municipality workers) of the incident was recorded by an unidentified person and later uploaded on social networking platforms, triggering controversy and allegations against municipal staff.
