KPDCL lineman succumbs to injuries in Budgam

Budgam, Feb 9, KNT: A lineman of the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited died in central Kashmir’s Budgam district after battling for life for over two weeks following an electrocution incident during power restoration work, officials said on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Bashir Ahmad Dar, an inhabitant of Bonamakuma area of Magam. Officials said Dar sustained critical injuries after receiving a severe electric shock while repairing an electricity transmission line in the Batpora Kanihama area of Magam during recent snowfall.

The incident occurred while power department teams were engaged in restoring electricity supply disrupted due to damage to transmission infrastructure. Dar reportedly collapsed at the site after the electrocution and was immediately shifted to Sub District Hospital Magam, from where he was referred to a hospital in Srinagar in view of his critical condition.

Despite remaining under intensive medical care for 16 days, Dar succumbed to his injuries, officials said.

Police said they have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the accident. Statements of concerned staff and officials are being recorded as part of the probe. [KNT]
