Jammu, Feb 16, KNT: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday directed the reopening of additional tourist destinations across Jammu and Kashmir after a detailed review of the security situation, paving the way for revival of tourism activity in several scenic areas.
As per official orders, eleven tourist spots in the Kashmir Division and three in the Jammu Division have been reopened with immediate effect. In Kashmir, the sites include Yousmarg and Doodhpathri in Budgam district, Dandipora Park in Kokernag area of Anantnag, Peer Ki Gali, Dubjan and Padpawan in Shopian district, Astanpora and Tulip Garden in Srinagar, Thajwas Glacier and Hung Park in Ganderbal district, and Wullar Watlab in Baramulla district.

In the Jammu Division, Devi Pindi in Reasi, Mahu Mangat in Ramban and Mughal Maidan in Kishtwar have been reopened.
However, four destinations will resume operations only after snow clearance. These include Gurez and Athwatoo in Bandipora district and Bangus in Kupwara district in Kashmir, along with Ramkund in Ramban district in Jammu.
The tourist spots had been closed earlier as a precautionary measure. Officials said the decision to reopen them was taken after assessing ground conditions and ensuring necessary safety arrangements.
Meanwhile, the Travel Agents Society of Kashmir welcomed the move and expressed gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor. TASK President Muhammad Ibrahim Siah and Secretary General Waseem Goosani termed the decision a long-pending demand of stakeholders associated with the tourism sector and said it would provide relief to thousands dependent on tourism for livelihood.
They expressed hope that the reopening would further restore visitor confidence and strengthen the region’s tourism economy. [KNT]
