Police, CRPF carry out searches and frisking in Srinagar’s Kokar Bazar

Srinagar, Feb 6, KNT: Ahead of the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Kashmir, Srinagar Police, in coordination with the Central Reserve Police Force, conducted a flash cordon and search operation at Kokar Bazar area of the city on Thursday, officials said.

During the operation, joint teams of Srinagar Police and Central Reserve Police Force carried out extensive searches, frisking of individuals and verification of identity cards in the area. Shops and business establishments were also checked as part of the security drill.

Officials said the operation was conducted as a precautionary measure to strengthen the security grid and ensure a peaceful atmosphere ahead of the high-profile visit. Movement of people was closely monitored, and commuters were briefly stopped for verification during the checking process.

Police sources said such flash operations form part of routine security arrangements whenever senior dignitaries are scheduled to visit the Valley. Locals were urged to cooperate with security personnel and comply with instructions issued on the ground.

No arrests or recoveries were reported during the operation till the filing of this report. Authorities said similar security measures may continue in other parts of Srinagar in the coming days. [KNT]
