Pre-dawn fire damages residential-cum-shopping complex in Srinagar

Srinagar, Feb 1, KNT: A fire broke out in the Maloora area of Srinagar during the early morning hours on Sunday, causing damage to a residential-cum-shopping complex, officials said.

According to Fire and Emergency Services officials, the incident was reported at around 2:08 am, following which fire tenders were immediately rushed from Mujgund, Jawahar Nagar and Safakadal fire stations.

Officials said the second and third floors of the shopping complex were engulfed in flames. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control after sustained efforts, preventing it from spreading to adjoining structures.

No loss of life or injuries were reported in the incident. However, property damage was reported, and the extent of the loss is being assessed.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, and further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances that led to the blaze.

Officials said timely response by fire services helped contain the fire, though the affected portion of the building suffered damage. [KNT]
