Kupwara, Sep 28, KNT: Five people were killed and six others injured after a passenger vehicle skidded off the Teetwal-Simari road and plunged into a gorge in the Simari area of Karnah in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday.
The injured were initially shifted to Sub-District Hospital Tangdhar for treatment and were subsequently referred to Government Medical College Handwara for further medical care.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Idrees, Hamza, Sayeeda Begum, Shabir Ahmad and Raja Arshad, according to reports citing officials. Hamza was a nine-month-old infant.
Police have registered a case in connection with the accident and initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the mishap.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed the district administration to ensure the best possible treatment for those injured. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed condolences and directed the authorities to extend medical assistance and all possible support to the affected families. [KNT]
