Tata Mobile Hits Vehicle, Barricade at Qazigund Naka; Policeman Escapes Unhurt

Qazigund, Sept 30, KNT: A Tata Mobile vehicle moving from Jammu towards Srinagar on Tuesday created panic at a traffic naka in Qazigund after hitting another vehicle and crashing into a barricade, police officials said.

According to details, the Tata Mobile, bearing registration number UP21ET0918, attempted to overtake recklessly near the Levdoora traffic naka when it collided with a Tavera vehicle (JK02AX7795). Instead of stopping, the Tata Mobile continued ahead and rammed into a barricade erected at the naka.

“The constable is safe. He did not suffer any serious harm despite the barricade hitting him,” an official told the news agency Kashmir News Trust.

The driver of the Tata Mobile managed to flee the spot after the incident, leaving behind chaos at the naka. Police teams have launched a search to trace the vehicle and identify the driver.

Officials said prima facie the case appears to be one of rash driving and possible attempt to evade checking at the naka. “The vehicle was moving at a high speed and tried to overtake dangerously. We are verifying the circumstances,” a police officer added.

The Tavera vehicle involved in the accident was damaged, though no civilian injuries were reported. Traffic movement was briefly disrupted in the area before being restored.

Police have registered a case and said strict action will be taken against the errant driver once apprehended.

The incident has raised concerns about overspeeding and reckless driving on the busy Jammu-Srinagar highway, particularly near naka points where security personnel are deployed. Locals and commuters called for stronger deterrents against such violations to ensure the safety of both the public and security personnel. [KNT]
