Mehbooba Mufti Terms Youth Protests a Cry for Survival, Not Rebellion

Srinagar, Oct 3, KNT: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Friday said that Generation Z across India, Ladakh and Kashmir has begun rising against what she termed as systemic failures that have shattered their future and eroded their trust in governance.

Mehbooba observed that the youth who had studied hard, followed rules and aspired for a better life now see their dreams slipping away. “From Uttarakhand to Ladakh and across the border in Kashmir, Gen Z is rising. Because when your future feels bleak and your dreams are shattered, resistance knows no borders. These are young people who toiled for a future, studied hard, followed every rule and held on to a ray of hope. But now they see the promise of that future slipping away,” she said.

She stressed that the new generation’s agitation should not be mistaken for mere noise. “They aren’t just protesting. They are confronting power with raw truth because the very system they were told to believe in has failed them catastrophically. This isn’t just noise. It’s heartbreak turning into resistance. This is not a rebellion but a cry for survival,” Mehbooba remarked.

Highlighting that the youth are no longer making appeals but pressing demands, the PDP chief added: “They are not asking anymore. They are demanding what’s rightfully theirs – accountability, justice, opportunity and dignity.”
