CM Omar Abdullah Reviews NH-44 Restoration, Prioritises Smooth Traffic for Fruit Transport

Ramban, August 8, KNT: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday conducted an on-ground inspection of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) to assess the progress of restoration works and ensure uninterrupted movement of traffic, particularly fruit-laden trucks and vehicles carrying essential supplies.

The Chief Minister personally reviewed the condition of the highway at restoration sites and took stock of the ongoing repair works being carried out to improve connectivity following recent weather-related disruptions.

 

During the visit, Omar directed the concerned agencies to expedite restoration measures and ensure that traffic movement remains as smooth as possible, especially during the peak apple harvesting season when thousands of fruit-laden trucks depend on the highway to access markets across the country.

He also stressed the need for close coordination among the executing agencies to minimise inconvenience to commuters and avoid unnecessary delays on the strategic highway.

Emphasising the importance of the road as Jammu and Kashmir’s lifeline, the Chief Minister said public convenience and seamless connectivity remain the government’s highest priority.

The inspection comes amid sustained efforts by the administration to improve traffic flow on NH-44, which has witnessed repeated disruptions due to heavy rainfall, landslides and road repair works in recent weeks. [KNT]
