Pulwama Police seize over 7 kg cannabis, two drug peddlers arrested

Pulwama, Dec 15, KNT: Continuing its sustained drive against drug abuse and trafficking, Pulwama Police arrested two persons and recovered a substantial quantity of cannabis-like substance during routine naka checking near a petrol pump at Marvel area of Kakapora.

Officials said a police party noticed two suspicious individuals coming from paddy fields towards the main road. One of them was carrying a nylon bag on his shoulder, while the other was holding a nylon bag in his hand. On noticing the naka point, both attempted to flee but were tactfully apprehended by the police.

During questioning, the apprehended persons identified themselves as Khursheed Ahmad Sofi, son of Abdul Gani Sofi, a local of Brari Gund Budgam at present Lelhar Kakapora, and Raju, son of Ash Muhammad, a local of Shanti Badi Bagdi Para Road, Badartala, Kolkata, West Bengal.

Upon search, police recovered 5.800 kilograms of semi-grinded cannabis-like substance from the nylon bag carried by Raju, while 1.335 kilograms of a similar substance was recovered from the bag of Khursheed Ahmad Sofi.

Following the recovery, a case under FIR No. 81/2025 under Sections 8, 20, and 29 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Kakapora. Both accused were arrested on the spot and the contraband was seized.

Police said further investigation is underway to trace the source and possible links of the narcotics. Pulwama Police reiterated its commitment to intensifying efforts to curb drug trafficking and protect the youth from the growing menace of drugs. [KNT]
