Health Authorities Urge Parents to Ensure Polio Vaccination for Children Below Five

Special Vaccination Centres Set Up Across Kashmir for Daylong Drive

Srinagar, Dec 21, KNT: Health authorities on Sunday issued an appeal to all parents across Jammu and Kashmir to ensure that children below five years of age receive polio drops at the designated vaccination centres.

The advisory emphasised that the campaign is scheduled for today only and urged families to participate without delay.

Officials said the immunisation effort forms part of the national Pulse Polio programme aimed at maintaining the region’s polio-free status. Special booths have been established at hospitals, schools, Anganwadi centres and mobile outreach points to ensure wide coverage. Health teams have also been deployed for house-to-house visits in areas where turnout tends to remain low.

The department reiterated its message that every child under five must receive the dose regardless of prior immunisation status. “All parents are advised to get their children below five years vaccinated today at the designated polio vaccination centres,” an official spokesperson said.

Authorities noted that sustained participation in each round of the campaign remains essential to prevent any resurgence of the virus. Monitoring teams are on the ground to track attendance and support local outreach. [KNT]
