Four Waqf Board Employees Indicted in Copper Scandal, Senior Official Under Probe

Srinagar, April 1, KNT: The committee probing the alleged copper scandal in the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board has reportedly indicted four employees, including a supervisor, while the role of a senior administrator remains under scrutiny. A committee member told KNT that the inquiry has entered its final stage and that further accountability may follow once all aspects are verified.
According to the member, four Waqf Board employees, including supervisor Nazir Ahmed Gujri, have been named in the findings. He said the committee is also examining the conduct of the administrator and will recommend action if the evidence substantiates his involvement. The official added that the matter carries emotional weight for locals due to its association with the Hazratbal Shrine, where donations and offerings hold significant spiritual value.
The committee member said the inquiry team has been assessing the role of what he described as a powerful and influential person linked to the Waqf Board. He said the individual remains under close scrutiny and could be exposed once the investigation confirms the details. The report, he said, has been completed and now awaits the arrival of Waqf Board Vice Chairman M. Y. Qadri in Srinagar for formal submission.
He said the public sentiment is strong and that locals expect strict action against those involved. The committee maintains that it intends to ensure transparency in the inquiry and address all concerns related to the alleged misappropriation. [KNT]
