South Kashmir Journalists Appeal to Pulwama DC for Relief From Toll Charges

Srinagar, Dec 26, KNT: Media representatives from south Kashmir have formally appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Basharat Qayoom, seeking exemption from the entry fee at the Awantipora Toll Plaza for journalists and media professionals.
In their appeal, the journalists underscored the role of the media as a key pillar of democracy, stating that reporters are required to travel frequently and at irregular hours to cover news events, public issues and emergency situations in the interest of the public.
They said the imposition of toll charges places an added financial burden on working journalists, particularly those engaged in daily ground reporting across south Kashmir. Media persons noted that repeated crossings of the toll plaza during routine assignments substantially increase operational costs.
The representatives urged the district administration to consider their request sympathetically and extend relief by exempting accredited journalists from toll fees. They pointed out that similar exemptions or facilitation measures are available for media professionals in other regions.
